This is us making a mess at The Brunswick Mess Hall which opened the other day.
We played a large roll in the concept, design and furniture of the space and we are stoked with how things ended up. There's much to show... once we get some good photos we will put a folio piece up. If your in the Brunswick area pop in for a drink or a bite. 400 Sydney Rd, Brunswick.
Below are a few bits and pieces while we wait for the proper photos.

For Guy Grossi's new Bar Ombra we decided we'd had enough of vinyl signage so we went back to the paint brush... So much more fun than just sending off a file to the printer. Below is a shot of me testing in the workshop like a kid in prep and below that the real thing on the front of the bar in Bourke St.
Full look at the project coming to the portfolio section of this site in the next week or 7.

Its always rad to see a project come to life after months of designing. The Brunswick Mess Hall, a new beer hall in Sydney Rd, Brunswick, is set to open soon and things are starting to come together.... Its been a super fun project to work on.
We created the concept behind the venue which set the tone for the architects (Travis Walton Architects) to do their magic, designed all the collateral and a bunch of interesting things that go on the walls.... and most of the furniture is being designed and built by CIP in our workshop!!!
Part of an illustration for the collateral

Over the last few months we have been working with Lucy and Josh on a new website / online store. It finally went live the other day and we are stoked with the outcome. Check it out here... there is heaps of cool stuff in there so pack (or hide) your credit card.
These images by Steve Back are aerial views of an algae production plant in Western Australia. They are a part of his series titled Hutt Lagoon. The colours are real! Amazing.
Found in the northern hemisphere this is supposedly the most colourful tree on the planet. It sheds it's outer bark to reveal bright green bark. This gradually turns blue, purple, orange and then maroon. Amazing.

Old Mate Simon Cookes of Duckbuild needed an update of his logo. We were more than happy to play around with things.
Look out for this sign posted out front of Duckbuild projects... Stay clear, something might fall on you due to shonky design... Nah he's the man, hit him up for anything architectural, you wont be disappointed!
I wouldn't mind stumbling across one of these little installations by A Common Name. They are made from paper and put in unsuspecting places. Unfortunately you would have to take a trip to Los Angeles to find one.
Peak at a job that has been keeping us very busy lately... The Merrywell a new Gastronomic Pub / Burger Bar open a week or two back. Essentially a brand creation job, this project allowed us huge scope to play around with different artistic avenues and ideas. There is a lot to show and we are stoked with how things turned out, for now here some site pics, full folio coming when we get in there with a good camera.
An Arboretum is a place where trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants are cultivated for conservation, scientific and educational study, display and preservation.
The National Arboretum Canberra features different types of threatened and symbolic trees from around Australia and the world. Situated on a 250-hectare site in the Greenhills Forest area, boasting spectacular views of Lake Burley Griffin. It incorporated the existing stand of 5000 Himalayan Cedars and the 80 year old Cork Oak plantation.
This is definitely on my to-do list of places to visit!
An art installation called 'The Obliteration Room' is at GoMA in Brisbane at the moment. It is a completely white room with white furniture, then kids are given coloured stickers and told to go nuts. I wish I could see it!
Recently arrived back from the incredible city of Hanoi in Vietnam. I was in awe of a man on the street who was casually carving lettering into wooden stamps. No rulers or stencils, he did it all free-hand.
Our good friend and DJ, Esty has mixed the first CIP MIXTAPE for your summer listening pleasure. We are stoked to share this with you and really appreciate Esty’s efforts in putting this together. Soundcloud listen and download below. enjoy.
A bit slow on the take-up but, we started an instagram account a month back and are now hooked. With posts most days our account is definably worth a look. We would love you to follow us so we can share our world with you!!!! Search for cipcreative
Below are some of the pics we have uploaded so far.
If your not on instagram what are you doing... download the app free from the app store today!
For those who don't know, Instsagram is an iPhone only app that allows users to share smartphone photos with each other... twitter with photos. more info here.
I Just came across this amazing image. If you ever wondered how whales get so big eating tiny plankton, heres an image of enough plankton to feed an army of whales... 'A phytoplankton bloom swirls a figure-of-8 in the South Atlantic Ocean about 600 km east of the Falkland Islands.'
I got a chance to test out my new cake tin on the weekend and get a bit creative with a chocolate sponge. Part of the cake collapsed so we tried to make a bra made of vienna icing...but apart from that a culinary triumph!
One of the more impressive pieces of Architecture I have seen in a while, METROPOL PARASOL - Redevelopment of Plaza de la Encarnacion, Seville, Spain by J. Mayer H. Architects. Love the scale and detail... its like a half giant mushroom forest, half cloud, half waffle! Hats off to the design team!
After a few short weeks away sitting on the beach, in the pub, on planes, in a park, on the couch watching cricket or gossip girls or whatever and generally relaxing we're back! Go easy on us. We hope everyone out there had some time off to relax over the xmas / New Years break!!!
I discovered artist Phillip Low last weekend, after seeing his holographic print in Edition X Gallery on Brunswick St . After a bit of research I found these photographs of some of his sculptures. Pretty amazing.
We have just finished and gone live with the new Plane Clothes website and online store. New Womens range to check out plus heaps of new Mens Items. Nice Plane / clean shop site - view here and buy buy buy... santa is coming!

When our mate Fila isn't running his skate shop he's running a plumbing business. Handy bloke! We did this identity for him a while back but never got round to taking pics of it...
I went to see ACMI's screening of L'enfer/Inferno last week, an abandoned psychedelic-drama by Henri-Georges Clouzot. It follows a husbands pathological jealousy of his flirtatious wife, but the real interest is the vast experimentation with surreal and psychedelic effects using elaborate props and colours. Clouzot also seemed infatuated with the flirtatious wife played by Romy Schneider, spending four days filming close ups of her seductively smoking cigarettes. I can't blame him, I've got quite the lady-crush on her to!

Saw this amazing wallpaper by Milan based art/design duo Carnovsky for London cafe DreamBagsJaguarShoes in a magazine the other day. As the lighting transitions from natural white, to warm red then green and blue different creatures reveal themselves. Pretty fancy.
There are a couple of new case studies in the Portfolio section of this website. Check them out if you have a spare second. There will be a few more before the years end.

We are in the final stages of the Mirka re-brand for Grossi Restaurants. Here are some print samples for a couple of items. Print collateral features details of Artworks by Mirka Mora that are painted all over the walls the restaurant. More to come, there new website is close too.
We have been working with the Guys at Plane Clothes on Plane's sister store 'Jane' at SOME SPACE - South Melbourne Market. We worked on the fit-out along with brand / signage. These are just crappy phone photos for now, we will get some proper shots up here soon. If your down at the market getting some fresh food you can now grab some fresh threads.
One of our most commented on designs is Planes' P L A N E wall below, at Jane we gave it a feminine spin.
Below is the installation process at JANE.
This is the store 90% complete. We will post a decent feature on the fit-out with a proper camera taking the photos soon.
I saw our new design for Capi in the pubic domain for the first time today! stoked!!. Claypots at sth Melbourne Market. Full Capi case study coming to our portfolio in the next couple of days, check back to see the whole project.

Back in the day I knew Spike Jonze for making classic skate videos, these days he also makes big movies. His attention to detail is an ongoing inspiration. Click on the picture below to see a new project of his.
Stopping at a red light in the city is not always bad. Melbourne architecture stacks up with some of the best.
This building is One East Melbourne by ARM Architects, one of my favorite firms in Australia. Simon Cookes, Director of Duckbuild Architects (who share our studio space) worked on this project during his time at ARM, nice work bud!

We have been very busy over the last 8 months working on the new drink range for Capi. CIP have created a new brand, identity / logo, label / packaging set, website, blah, blah, etc, etc. The below pics were taken during the bottle photo shoot. We also took a bunch of photos of some cocktails that include the Capi's mixer Range... Best Gin & Tonic I have ever tasted. You will be able to see the results when the website goes live in a couple of days. Tony took the photos and we are stoked with the results.
The set-up
The Specimen pixelated
Me braking the computer
Tony fixing the computer
Me braking the camera before knocking the set-up
empty Capi
Some of the packaging proofs
The good photos above were taken by Tony, the crap ones by me on my phone.
Stay tuned for updates on Capi, The Drink will be making its way into Australian stores over the next few days. If you see it in store get some, it tastes fucking good... Really good for Mixing hard liquor with too... if that's how you roll.
Very happy to announce we won an award at this years Melbourne Design Awards. We won in the feild of "Graphic Design - Corporate Identity and Branding" for Merchant. We were also a finalist in the same category for PM24 - stoked. The awards were presented by the Design Institute of Australia. Thanks to Guy and the team at Grossi for being awesome clients that let us have free reign and fun with the project!!!!!
Unicef along with Dulux are inviting people to donate at least £1 to own one of 16.7 million colours that can be displayed on computers, smartphones and tablets. All the money raised will go towards protecting and transforming the lives of children and young people all over the world, Own A Colour.
Using 3D Motion Capture software, Front design have created a series of furniture pieces that use pen strokes in midair to create usable furniture. In simpler terms, they've worked out how to make free hand sparkler drawings into real objects! They are then developed from a freehand digital sketch to a real piece of furniture using Rapid Prototyping.

It doesn't happen very often, but I actually baked a cake on the weekend.
Check out this sweet little movie by Tiger In A Jar. I love the way they make the process look so beautiful.
We are stoked to announce that 2 of our projects have been short listed for the National Create Awards presented by Desktop Magazine (Branding / Identity section). We find out winners late September, we are happy to be short listed none the less.
Us in the magazine
The finalists launch was a few weeks back at No Vacancy Gallery
Last Friday I went to check out good mate Jeremy's new show Fleeting Embrace at Lindberg Gallery. Its another awesome collection from the Kiwi, well worth a look if your in the city in the next few weeks. Love what he's doing with his photography, a step up from your standard photography exhibition. More info here. Good one Jez!.
After the show we went to another mates show, this time it was all about food and drink. Toby Puttock's newly opened Kitchen Cat is full of amazing meals to select from... Loving the new menu, simple meals done really really well. Defiantly book a table there.
Tobes put us in the Private Dining Room because we were a little too rowdy for the main room... suited us fine.
First time I've had pig's ear chips... so good!!
Chef Toby and Jay after a long nights work making sure we weren't breaking anything... thanks guys.
As part of the design process of a new website Transport at Federation Square... The Guys at Taxi invited CIP around for dinner the other night to get the vibe... They did not hold back - amazing full spread to eat with equally as good Vino. Big thanks to Chef Tony, Owen, Bec, Jackson and the crew for taking care of us. Plenty of inspiration for concept design stage. Below are some pics, every time you go to Taxi you are taken away by the view.
Hot little track from Wiley with a sick clip. Saw it late on rage after I got home from a few drinks the other night and it made me want to go back out again... watch and listen below
I'm going to go see Milton Glaser next week as part of the State of Design Festival. Best known for his I heart NY logo and Bob Dylan poster design, I'm looking forward to seeing him speak if this YouTube clip is anything to go by!
On a recent trip to Europe I visited the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao designed by Frank Gehry. Gehry has been labelled everything from 'overrated' to 'one of the best architects of all time'. I'm no architecture nerd but I found the building mind blowing... and I'm pretty sure it would still be enough to make our studio friends Cookesy and Phil at Duckbuild wet their pants.
The inside is just as impressive. It's nice to visit a gallery in where there is enough space to stand back and view the artwork... which is not always the case in Europe.
This was and still is one of my favorite graphics ever. The skate art of the 80's/90's is a big reason why there are too many graphic designers around these days... Artwork by Vernon Courtland Johnson.
Just bought the new BarberOsgerby book and this is a favorite piece. Inspired by layers of Filo pastry originally a private commission its now produced by Cappellini. Sweet how you can change layers when you get sick of a colour...or more likely, spill some red.
My new favourite escapism is looking for awesome treehouse architecture (for the Peter Pan Syndrome in all of us). Below are some favourites including a treehouse restaurant.
CIP is stoked to announce we are currently working on a new online presence for the iconic Melbourne venues Transport, Taxi and Transit at Federation Square. Cant wait to get started on the concepts...
Not long ago I noticed an old armchair at the end of our street in St Kilda. Someone had stenciled the words 'waiting for you' onto it. It made me smile. After spotting a few more of these roadside art pieces around the place I did a bit of research and found out that this was the work of local artist Julie Shiels.
Went to see Rone's Solo show at Backwoods gallery the other night, it was rad. The gallery space is close to CIP's heart as it used to be our studio space. Rone makes it look way better than we ever did.

CIP is currently working on a new identity and brand roll-out for Grossi's Mirka restaurant at Tolarno Hotel in St Kilda. The brief was to better represent the restaurants Continental Bistro heart through classic branding and aesthetic.
CIP's #1 sign guy Hector was on location to weave his magic once again with the new signage.
